There are a number of different options to explore for generating funds for the conservation of Traditional Orchards. The best route will depend on your individual circumstances and needs. For private orchard owners and farmers, Environmental Stewardship schemes are a viable option. Some local authorities also have schemes to encourage the planting of standard fruit trees, which are suitable for the private owner who wishes to maintain their small orchard. For community groups and organisations, lottery funds have been successfully applied to in the past.

Please use the lefthand menu to browse the options and see what is available. New initiatives and projects often crop up, and we will endevour to keep these pages up to date.

The Big Tree Plant

The Big Tree Plant is a campaign to encourage people and communities to plant more trees in England's Towns, cities and Neighbourhoods. Anybody can get invloved by planting and caring for trees to help make nighbourhoods more attractive and healthy places to live.  From April 2011, £42m will be available to support community groups to plant trees in towns, cities and residential areas throughout England. The funding is for community-led tree planting  projects in areas that would benefit most. The trees must be planted in streets or in green places that are open to all to visit or where local people will benefit from them. This is a fantastic opportunity to plant as many community orchards as possible. If you are thinking of planting an orchard we would strongly encourage you to apply for funding.
