The most famous apple in the world was raised in what is now Berkshire (Bucks before two boundary changes to Surrey then Berks). Richard Cox grew the first Cox's Orange Pippin! Common Ground initiated the creation of a celebratory Community Orchard in Abany Park, Colnbrook, with Cox's Orange Pippin trees and others, planted by local schoolchildren, and three specially made seats/tree guards in metal which spell C O X.

Berkshire has produced a number of very successful nurserymen (Famous names include Charles Ross) and new varieties of fruit, but old orchards and nurseries are being eaten up by housing and other developments.
